Frequently asked questions

What are data credits vs actions?

Data credits are spent by enrichment provider calls (Hunter, Apollo, etc.). Actions are spent by AI agent runs. We meter them separately so you see exactly what each costs - the same approach Clay uses, but with published rates.

What does "estimate before run" mean?

Before any enrichment or agent run, Kiln computes the expected cost and match-rate using each provider’s declared hit-rate and your waterfall ordering. You see the number, then decide to run. No surprise bills.

What are hard spend caps?

Every org has a monthly spend cap, on by default, set to your plan’s allowance. You can lower it, pause all spend by setting it to 0, or let it ride at the plan ceiling. A cap can never exceed your plan without an upgrade.

Am I charged for failed enrichment calls?

No - and not for misses either. You are charged only when a provider returns a VERIFIED result you can actually use. Errors, misses, unverifiable email guesses, cached repeats and sample data are all free. This is the single biggest difference between our bill and Clay’s.

What happens if the same lookup runs twice?

Nothing is charged the second time. Every provider call is keyed by (provider, inputs); a repeat inside the cache window replays the stored answer for free, and the ledger shows how much the cache saved you.

Is CRM sync really included on the $49 plan?

Yes. HubSpot and Salesforce sync, the public API, webhooks and sequencer export are all on the entry paid tier. Gating a fundamental integration behind a $446/mo plan is the practice we are pricing against.

Do top-ups cost more per credit than my plan?

No. Top-up packs are priced at the same rate as the plan they sit next to, and published overage is at or below your in-plan rate. There is no top-up premium.

Can I bring my own provider keys?

Yes, on every tier including Free. Paste your Hunter / Icypeas / Prospeo / Findymail / Dropcontact / People Data Labs key and you pay the vendor at cost while Kiln charges only for the orchestration. Keys are encrypted at rest with AES-256-GCM and never shown again after you save them.

Do you scrape LinkedIn or consumer platforms?

No. Kiln only calls official, licensed data-provider APIs. We never scrape login-gated platforms - hiQ v. LinkedIn ended in a breach-of-contract judgment against the scraper, and that is not a risk we will put a customer behind.

How do you handle opt-outs and deletion requests?

A suppressed email or domain is skipped before any provider is called, so an opt-out stops the processing and the spend, not just the export. An erasure request redacts the cells, deletes the provenance quoting them, and clears the cached provider payloads.
